Swimming and diving are great sports for children, providing an individual sport
within a team sport setting. The children receive fabulous coaching, great
cardiovascular exercise, and fun activities throughout the season. Our focus is
on individual improvement and group camaraderie. In particular, our program is
designed to meet the needs both of children who swim or dive only in the summer
for fun as well as those who compete year-round. We are delighted to have
Soozie Tomes returning for another season as head coach of our program. We
would also like to welcome Heather Schurig, who will be our new diving coach.
Practices are held in the morning before the pool opens to the public. The times are as follows:
Dual meets are generally on Thursday afternoon/evenings. There will be one meet on Tuesday this year. We participate in the Seven Hills Swim League and our schedule this year includes 5 dual meets plus a diving and swimming championship. In addition, there are several swimming meets just for fun that families can choose to do. 2010 Season Schedule (Download)
May 2010 Calendar (Download) Our Head Swim Coach, Soozie Tomes, is returning for yet another season at Terrace Park and we are thrilled to have her back! Soozie has over forty years of coaching experience in Cincinnati and we are the envy of our league to have her coaching our children. Soozie will be joined by Coach Katie, Coach Laura, and new to our program, Coach JB Easely. For our diving team, we are please to have Heather Schurig joining us. Heather has had three years of experience as head coach of the Bluegrass Swim Team in Northern Kentucky. Heather, who is a diver herself, is also a teacher. Heather is going to be a huge asset to our staff. With her many years of diving experience, we look forward to another strong year for the diving team. Stroke clinics are back! May 4th through May 21st we will conducting stoke clinics at the Mariemont High School pool. Ten and under will swim from 4:00-4:45, and swimmers over ten will be from 4:45-5:30. This is a great chance for your swimmer to jump-start their stoke work in the indoor pool. This clinic is included in the team fees and is for Tiger Sharks only. We have updated our spirit wear this year with a new team logo! We are really trying to encourage team unity and these new shirts will be a great way to do it. The shirts will also be available in adult size and would be excellent to wear when volunteering at the meets! Spirit wear may be purchased at registration or at Suit-Up Day. Rhea Greene will be in charge of spirit wear this year. Rhea can be reached at 248-9969, or rhearheagreen@aol.com. We will be using the same swimming suit as last year- the Speedo "Sparkler-blue" . The team suit is recommended although not required. This suit has been discontinued, however there are suits still available. Please check your child's suit to see if it still fits from last year. Kids grow quickly, but if you can use last years suit, I would recommend it. We have only used this suit for one season, and don't want to have to ask you to buy another new suit this year if it's not necessary. "Suit-Up Day" will be held this year on May 20th at the high school during stoke clinic. Kast-A-Way Swimwear reps will have suits available that day for purchase at our discounted team price. This is a great opportunity to make sure you get the right fit. Tiger Sharks will also need goggles and swim caps (team caps will be available for a nominal fee at stroke clinic). Our popular Mini Shark Program continues for the 2009 season. Once again, we will implement a two-tier program designed to build skills in our younger swimmers, preparing them to join the competitive Tiger Shark Program. This program is for children who are already comfortable in the water, but who are not quite ready for the competitive team. Mini-Shark Two's will be the entry-level program. Participants will receive in-water coaching instruction designed to help kids 10 and under feel great in the water, build their stoke skills, and learn a racing dive. Mini Shark One's will be the second tier in the Mini Shark Program with all of the wonderful coaching offered in the Mini Shark Two's but with the added goal of participation in two meets by the end of the summer season. Coach Soozie will assess all Mini Sharks to determine which program will best meet their needs. These evaluations will take place on May 18th and 19th at Mariemont High School. Mini Sharks will need a one-piece suit and goggles. You may choose the team suit or provide your own. Parent volunteers make our program a success; we wouldn't have a team without you! The swim meets are completely staffed by our volunteers and most jobs require little of no special training. One adult from each family will be required to volunteer for at least one met activity in support of our team in order for your child to participate in the Tiger Shark program. For those of you who are new to swimming, participating in the meets is a fun and great way to pass the time between swims.
