Swimming and diving are great sports for children, providing an individual sport
within a team sport setting. The children receive fabulous coaching, great
cardiovascular exercise, and fun activities throughout the season. Our focus is
on individual improvement and group camaraderie. In particular, our program is
designed to meet the needs both of children who swim or dive only in the summer
for fun as well as those who compete year-round. We are delighted to welcome
Soozie Tomes and Gina Sylvester back to our program as Head Coaches of swimming
and diving, respectively.
Practices are held in the mornings before the pool opens to the public, and dual meets are generally on Thursday afternoon/evenings (note: there will be one meet on a Monday this year) We participate in the Seven Hills Swim League and our schedule this year includes 5 dual meets plus diving and swimming championships. In addition, there are a couple of swim meets just for fun that families can choose to do. Our Head Swim Coach, Soozie Tomes, is returning for her sevemth summer season at Terrace Park and we are thrilled! Soozie has over forty years of coaching experience in Cincinnati and we are the envy of our league to have her coaching our children. Soozie will be joined by Coach Katie and Coach Laura, so we have a terrific experienced staff. For our diving team, we are pleased to welcome back Gina Sylvester for her third year as Dive Coach at Terrace Park. Gina was a terrific addition to our staff last year with her many years of diving experience, and we look forward to another strong year with her at the helm. Team registration will be on Sunday, April 29th, at the TPE Cafeteria from 5:00 to 7:00. Cost of the program is $35 per swimmer, which will cover activities, awards, and incidentals. There is a max of $90 per family for the Tiger Shark program - swimmers or divers. This does not include mini-Sharks or swim lessons. All paperwork and fees are due by the first day of the swim clinic, which is May 7.
The following forms are required for participation on the swim-dive teams.
Medical Release Form (Download) The Stroke Clinic is back by popular demand May 7-May 25 at Mariemont High School. Eight and under will swim from 4-4:45 every day and 9 and overs will swim 4:45-5:30.) This is a great chance for your children to jump-start their stroke work in the indoor pool where it is warm! The clinic is included in the team fees and is for Tiger Sharks only
Spirit Wear may be purchased at registration or my contacting Anne Guist (576-1363)
or Kelley Smith (831-1598). Our popular Mini Shark Program continues for the 2007 season! Once again, we will implement a two-tier program designed to build skills in our younger swimmers, preparing them to join the competitive Tiger Shark Program. This program is for children who are already comfortable in the water, but who are not quite ready for the competitive team. Mini Shark Twos will be the entry-level program. Participants will receive in-water coaching instruction designed to help kids 10 and under feel great in the water, build their stroke skills, and learn a racing dive. Mini Shark Ones will be the second tier in the Mini Shark program with all of the wonderful coaching offered in Mini Shark Twos but with the added goal of participation in two meets by the end of the season. Coach Soozie will assess all mini Sharks to determine which program will best meet their needs. The fee for the Mini Shark program is $60 per swimmer. Mini sharks will need a one-piece suit and goggles. You may choose the team suit or provide your own. Parent volunteers make our program a success; we wouldn't have a team without you! The swim meets are completely staffed by our volunteers and most jobs require little or no special training. One adult from each family will be required to volunteer for at least one meet activity in support of our team in order for your child to participate in the Shark program. A listing of our volunteer needs will be available at registration. You will want to sign up early for the best selection. For those of you new to swimming, participating in the meets is fun and a great way to pass the time between swims! Please feel free to contact Janis Dietz (965-0766) or K-T Overbey (576-0885) with any questions. |
